Technical Support
Downloading:
If you have a 56K modem and a slow dial-up
Internet connection, your Internet service
provider (ISP) may automatically disconnect
you if it senses that you are not actively
using the Internet. This may even happen
during long downloads if you are not using
your mouse or keyboard in an Internet
related program such as Internet Explorer
or Firefox. Downloading Business Outside
the Box may take 20-40 minutes on
a dial-up connection. If you lose your
connection during downloading, the solution
may be to open a new browser window (Ctrl+N)
and actively use the Internet during the
period of your download to "keep your
connection alive". ISPs disconnecting
during long downloads is not common, so
it shouldn't be a problem.
As a cautionary measure, I suggest that
you exit all unnecessary programs before
downloading Business Outside the Box.
The ebook is a 16.44Mb file that will
be downloaded and opened in a new browser
window. This uses a lot of your computer's
memory. Freeing up memory by closing unnecessary
programs, may significantly speed up the
download process on computers with less
than 516Mb of RAM.
When you click the download link below, Business
Outside the Box will open in a new
browser window with Adobe Reader.
YOU MUST SAVE Business_Outside_the_Box.pdf
to a location that you will remember (see
fig.1). Make sure it is completely downloaded
before you save it. On a slow dial-up
connection this could take up to 40 minutes
or more. Computers with high-speed connections
to the Internet take about a minute or
so to download the file. You should be
able to see about 404 pages. If you don't
save it and close, or exit the page with
Business Outside the Box, you
will lose it. It must be SAVED.
If you have a folder where you regularly
download ebooks, I suggest you put it
there. If you don't regularly download
files from the Internet, I suggest you
put Business_Outside_the_Box.pdf on your
desktop like the example in fig.2. If,
for some reason, the "Save"
icon is disabled (grayed-out), click on
the "File" menu item in the
top left-hand corner and choose "Save
As".

fig.1 - SAVE
the ebook.

fig. 2 - Save to a location that you'll remember.
CAUTION
- Do not exit the download page until
you have fully downloaded all 404 pages
of the ebook file and saved it. If you
have a pop-up stopper that prevents the
new browser window from opening, hold
the “Control” (Ctrl) key down
while you click the download link.
Viewing Business Outside the Box
You must have Adobe Reader installed
on your computer to read Business Outside
the Box. Chances are, you already
have it installed. If not, you can get
it here.
If you have an older version of Adobe
Reader (current version is 7.08 as of
this writing), I suggest you upgrade by
going to the link above. When you download
it, choose “Run” or “Open”
in the dialog boxes that pop up. It's
less hassle than choosing “Save”.
Version 7.08 has a nicer navigation system
than the older versions of Adobe Reader.
To read Business Outside the Box,
you must locate where you put the file
and double click on it with your left
mouse button to open it.
Business Outside the Box is a very large
file. You may find that if you have more
than a couple other programs open at the
same time as you are reading it, that your
computer may operate slowly or erratically.
If that happens, close some of the other
programs and avoid using your printer or
doing an anti-virus check while you are
reading the ebook.
You will probably find that using the page controls at the bottom of the Adobe Reader window
the best way to read the book. You can also use your “Page Up” and “Page
Down” keys. Another handy document navigation tool is the Bookmark pane on the left side
of the Reader window. The ebook also has its own built-in navigation system.
There are many links to web sites in Business
Outside the Box. Sometimes Adobe Reader
has a difficult time opening them. It
helps to have your browser open (running)
when you use the web links in the ebook.
Also make sure that Adobe Reader has permission
to access the Internet if you are using
a firewall software like Zone Alarm or
Windows' own built-in firewall.
If you have any problems not addressed here, or on the “About” page of the ebook
itself, please use the form above to contact me. You can also use the form to inform me
that you are interested receiving an email notification of new business books authored by me.
Your name and contact details will not be given away or sold to other parties.
